German factories report minor disruptions due to extreme heat

Callanish notes that last week's record temperatures did not cause noticeable disruptions to the logistics of steel mills and related operations in Germany.

The steel mills and their associated associations have not reported any problems so far. Representatives of Saarland mills Saarstahl and Dillinger do not see any particular problems due to low water levels in their waterways, Kallanish reports.

Thyssenkrupp Steel, located downstream of the Rhine, is also unaware of the deterioration in its logistics. "The Rhine is no longer powered by glaciers, but mainly by precipitation, so dry periods affect the water level in it," the spokesperson notes. However, according to her, this has not happened in recent weeks.

Salzgitter receives most of its supplies through the Mittellandkanal, where the water level is relatively stable. Despite the heat, the company has recently complained about problems with rail transport due to a number of construction sites along the railway tracks.

To date, there have been no noteworthy reports during 2026 of a deterioration in the condition of Germany's industrial waterways as a whole compared to the previous dry years observed in 2018 and 2019.

Meanwhile, cracks formed in the sidewalk on various highways due to the high temperature, as a result of which several routes were temporarily closed. In the future, this may become a problem for typical transportation routes used in local steel and scrap logistics.
