The Finnish ferroalloy manufacturer Afarak Group is considering the possibility of acquiring the plant of the Italian manufacturer of long products ABS Sisak in Croatia, Kallanish said in a statement published on the stock exchange.
Negotiations are underway with ABS, part of the Danieli Group steel division, to acquire a plant to resume production and install a new rebar production line with a capacity of about 500,000 tons per year.
"Croatia currently imports almost all of its construction steel — about 400,000 tons per year — so domestic production would directly reduce dependence on imports. The total value of the transaction, including the installation of a mini-mill developed by Danieli, a compact and energy-efficient production model that processes ferrous scrap into rebar, wire rod and rods for the construction industry, is about 200 million euros[228.9 million dollars]," the report says. States.
According to Afarak, there are no binding obligations between the parties at this stage. The press release was published in response to Croatian media reports, some of which the company calls incorrect or inaccurately designed, Kallanish notes.
In 2024, ABS announced that it would increase sales by optimizing production both at the ABS Sisak plant in Croatia and at the newly developed wire rod rolling and ore crushing plants in Italy.
