The European Commission has launched targeted consultations as part of the revision of the product list in accordance with the EU Steel Regulation (2026/1384). During the consultations, interested parties are invited to express their opinion on which additional products should be included in the scope of the regulation.
As part of the review carried out in accordance with Article 12(1) of the EU Steel Regulation, which entered into force on 1 July 2026, the European Commission will assess the possible inclusion of cast iron pipes, tubes and hollow profiles; non-alloy and other steel wire; stainless steel wire; and forged alloy bars. subject to this regulation.
The consultation process is open to steel producers, steel consumers, traders, importers, industry associations and other interested parties. Comments will be accepted from July 28 to September 28, 2026.
After the consultations, the Commission will analyze the feedback received and plans to complete the evaluation of the product list by December 31, 2026.
The EU Steel Regulation entered into force on July 1, 2026 to address trade-related issues related to the impact of the global steel capacity glut on the EU steel market. In accordance with it, a duty-free import quota of 18.3 million tons was introduced, and imports in excess of the quota are subject to a customs duty of 50%. The regulations also introduced a "melting and casting" rule for imported steel products. In addition, the allocation of tariff quotas is determined according to the criteria set out in the regulation, which also sets the framework for trade measures to protect the EU steel market.
