Prices for domestic hot-rolled steel in Northern Europe declined slightly due to lower demand from buyers, while the Italian market remained mostly calm and slow, Fastmarkets sources said on Friday, August 21. On Thursday, a source in the sellers announced offers for materials for delivery in the fourth quarter at a price of 725-745 euros per ton from the plant and deals at a price of 715 euros per ton from the plant.
On the same day, a customer source reported transactions in the range of 730-740 euros per ton from the factory and at a price of 715 euros per ton from the factory. The second buyer indicated an acceptable sales level of 710-715 euros per ton from the factory.
There was still a decline in the market during the August holidays, but sources said that consumption of HRC in Germany is growing, and some plants are targeting prices of up to 800 euros per ton from the plant for October deliveries.
But the viewing results of this increase were mixed: some sources expected that buyers would pay such prices, while others were skeptical that the increase would be achieved.
"It's just targeting, I've heard the same thing. But we need to wait and see who will order what," a source in the retail chain said on Friday.
The corresponding daily price index for Fastmarkets hot-rolled steel for domestic consumption and export to Northern Europe on August 21 was 722.08 euros per ton, down by 2.30 euros per ton from 724.38 euros per ton on August 20.
The index rose by 3.33 euros per ton for the week and by 12.08 euros per ton for the week. Per ton on a monthly basis.
In Italy, participants were expected to return to work in the week starting on August 24, so the market was mostly inactive on Friday.
The latest offers and figures were reported during the previous days, oil prices fluctuated in the range of 700-720 euros per ton.
As a result, the daily price index for Fastmarkets hot-rolled steel in the domestic market, exw in Italy, was 712.50 euros per ton on August 21, unchanged from August 20.
The index decreased by 1.25 euros per ton week-on-week, but increased by 13.12 euros per ton on a monthly basis.
