German steelmaker Salzgitter AG has announced that Christoph Martin will take over as the company's chief financial officer on October 1, 2026.
The decision was made by the Supervisory Board of Salzgitter AG on September 11. Martin will replace Birgit Potrafki, who has decided not to renew her contract. Her current term of office expires on January 31, 2027, and until that time, she will ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities to the new CFO.
Ulrike Brosi, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Salzgitter AG, noted that Martin has many years of experience in various management positions in the field of controlling and finance. According to her, the company expects him to continue the course that Salzgitter AG has been pursuing in recent years.
The company thanked Potrafki, who joined the Board of Salzgitter AG in February 2024, for her work in this position. During her work, she contributed to the implementation of the P28 profit improvement program, the formation of a modern financial structure, the development of IT and financial processes, as well as the inclusion of Salzgitter AG in the MDAX index.
Gunnar Grobler, CEO of Salzgitter AG, emphasized that the trade played an important role in the implementation of the P28 program and in the development of the company's financial structure. He also noted that Christophe Martin has made a significant contribution to the transformation process and will ensure continuity by continuing the P28 program.
Since January 2025, Christoph Martin has been a member of the Board of Salzgitter Mannesmann Handel GmbH and Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH. He started his career at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG in the field of production management in metallurgy, after which he held various management and financial positions in the company.
Martin studied economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen and received a master's degree in tax and commercial law from the University of Munster.
