In August, steel sales in Germany totaled 727,529 metric tons, which is 17.8% less than in July and 2.7% lower than in August last year. This is evidenced by data from the German steel trade Association BDS.

At the same time, stocks at German distributors remained almost unchanged at the end of August and amounted to 1,921,832 tons, which is only 0.1% more than a month earlier and 3.1% more year—on-year.

A decrease in sales was recorded in all major categories. The largest segment, flat rolled products, decreased in August by 18.4% compared to July, to 414,052 tons, which is also 5.6% lower than a year ago.

Sales of rolled products decreased to 250,106 tons against 293,272 tons in July, that is, by 14.7% month-on-month. However, year—on-year, this segment showed an increase of 5.7% compared to 236,714 tons in August last year, the only one among the main categories.

The category of other products, which includes pipes and other special types of steel, proved to be the worst in August. Its sales decreased to 63,371 tons, which is 24.9% less than a month earlier and 12.3% lower than a year ago.

The stocks of flat rolled products in distributors' warehouses decreased by 0.8% compared to July and amounted to 1,251,363 tons. On the contrary, they increased by 5.7% in annual terms.

Stocks of rolled products increased to 632,508 tons from 620,140 tons in July, an increase of 2% over the month. At the same time, they were 2.4% lower than a year earlier.

In the category of other products, stocks remained virtually unchanged at 37,961 tons, which is 0.1% more than in July and 15.5% higher than in August last year.
