The European Commission has launched targeted consultations on the implementation and operation of the new EU steel production regulation. The Agency invites market participants to share their experience and tell how the document affected the industry at an early stage of its application.

Regulation (EU) 2026/1384 establishes a system of tariff quotas that should protect the European steel market from the negative effects of global overcapacity related to trade. After the completion of the first quarter from the date of application, the consultations will help the Commission to continue monitoring and evaluating how the regulations affect the entire supply chain in the steel industry.

Steel producers and consumers, industry associations, third-country governments, exporters and other interested parties are invited to participate.

Steel distributors, traders, and service centers are encouraged to join the consultations separately. Practical examples of how regulations affect the availability of materials, procurement decisions, costs, administrative workload, and customer offers will help you take into account real-world industry experience when evaluating a document.

The deadline for submitting materials to the European Commission is October 11, 2026 at 23:59 Eastern time.

Participants are also invited to send their responses or key comments to EUROMETAL by October 7, 2026, so that they can be taken into account in the organization's position. At the same time, it is necessary to specify separately any information that is confidential or should be used only anonymously.
