In the first nine months of the year, stainless and specialty steel producer Aperam shipped 1.76 million tonnes of products, up 1.7% year on year. The company reported this on November 6 in its third-quarter report.
Shipments in the core stainless and electrical steel segment fell 1.5% to 1.23 million tonnes. The average realized steel price was 2,331 euros per tonne, compared with 2,241 euros a year earlier.
Aperam attributed the decline in shipments in this segment to the summer slowdown in business activity in Europe.
In the services and solutions segment, shipments in January–September fell 7% year on year to 518,000 tonnes. The average realized price was virtually unchanged at 2,867 euros per tonne.
The company noted that shipments in this segment were affected by a seasonal decline in demand in Europe in the third quarter.
Shipments in the alloys and specialty products segment remained at last year’s level of 46,000 tonnes. The average realized steel price was 17,147 euros per tonne, compared with 17,840 euros in the third quarter of 2025.
Shipments in the recycling and renewables segment rose 9.3% year on year to 1.1 million tonnes. The average realized price reached 1,278 euros per tonne, compared with 1,225 euros in the third quarter of 2025.
On November 5, Platts, a division of S&P Global Energy, assessed the price of 18/8 stainless steel scrap bundles on a CIF Rotterdam basis at 1,324.20 euros per tonne. The price has risen 12% since the start of 2026.
Aperam CEO Sud Sivaji said the third quarter of 2026 was the company’s best third quarter in four years.
“These results, achieved against a backdrop of seasonal weakness and subdued demand in Europe, confirm that our hard work is paying off: we are expanding Aperam’s business beyond Europe and growing our activities in areas beyond stainless steel,” Sivaji said in a statement.
