on Tuesday, the Italian government rejected the proposed ArcelorMittal plan mass layoffs of employees of loss-making Ilva steel plant after the Steelworkers went on strike, protesting against cuts.

After the withdrawal of the application for cancellation in exchange for public funding ArcelorMittal has submitted a plan with a new proposal to reduce jobs, which aroused the wrath of the government and the trade unions.

the Company confirmed the sending of the plan, but did not provide any details. Italian media reported at the weekend that the plan included the reduction of 5 000 jobs.

on Tuesday, the Ministers and representatives of trade unions held a video link to discuss the latest proposals, which have forced unions to declare a 24-hour strike.

In Ilva employs more than 8,000 people, and as suppliers or contractors employ about 1 000 people.

industry Minister of Italy Stefano Patuelli said that the government will try to "undo" the terms of the plan and to maintain jobs at the plant, one of the few large industrial employers in the economically depressed South of Italy.
