EU wind farms will be 25 times more powerful
The European Union is giving up fossil energy sources to take it from the sun, water and wind. He wants to increase the capacity of offshore wind farms 25 times by 2050. This is the new proposal of the European Commission in the framework of the "Green Agreement" of the EU countries and in order to neutralize the impact of people on the climate.
“This strategy will benefit both the environment and the economy. We clean our energy supply, support European industry, create jobs, protect biodiversity, reduce pollution and provide a healthy basis for the prosperity of fishing communities. We are raising the bar high because it is clearly urgent and has great potential, ”said Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Commission.
According to the plan, the water-based wind farms will increase electricity production from 12 GW to 60 GW by 2030 and 300 GW by 2050.
But such a quick placement of more structures and equipment can harm the environment. Sergei Moroz, a specialist at the European Environment Bureau, wrote: “We need clean energy just like we need a healthy sea if we want to stop the current climate and environmental crises that threaten our very survival.”
Another issue is cost. The European Commission estimates that 800 billion euros will be required by 2050 for its green transformation plans to succeed.
While the pandemic is killing many people and destroying the economy, many EU countries will find it difficult to waste money, even if it provides clean energy.
