USA and Serbia agree on cooperation in the energy sector
Serbia and the United States share a common goal of overcoming the climate crisis and have pledged to accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies to meet their respective commitments to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This is stated in a joint statement by the US Department of Energy and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Serbia published on Thursday.
“In addition to recognizing the need to invest in new power generation technologies, Serbia and the United States recognize that energy storage is an important element of energy security. This includes a common interest in understanding, realizing and improving the full potential of hydropower and pumped storage hydropower to ensure reliability, sustainability and integration into a rapidly evolving electrical system, ”the document says.
During a meeting between Undersecretary of State Graves and Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mines and Energy Zorana Mikhailovic, the US official stressed the US Department of Commerce's commitment to exploring opportunities to improve commercial relations between the two countries. Undersecretary of State Graves congratulated the Serbian government on the amendments to the law on renewable energy sources and expressed interest in working with Serbia to support and achieve the country's energy goals.
