Canadian Steel Companies announce price increases

Steel companies Stelco and ArcelorMittal announced price increases for their Canadian products on November 5-6.

Both companies raised the prices of their Canadian steel products by 100 Canadian dollars per ton in letters sent to customers during the week. The price increase came after months of growing concern about the health of the Canadian steel industry.

Canadian steel producer Algoma reported in its latest report[url=https://direct.argusmedia.com/newsandanalysis/article/2748307]that in the third quarter of 2025, steel prices in Canada were 40% lower than in the United States, but these tariff costs significantly limited access to previously important the US market.

Prices for flat rolled products in the United States ranged from $848.50 per ton to $1,025.50 per ton during the week of October 27 to October 31, depending on the steel grade, according to Argus.

Canadian mills sought to increase production and profitability in the domestic market as its steel was increasingly cut off from the U.

S. market.

Canadian buyers said that demand was fairly steady during the summer and fall, however, some firms were focused on simply maintaining activity and employment levels due to the lack of new business opportunities.
