Ukraine has started a dialogue with the United States on the abolition of 25% duties on steel

Ukraine is at the initial stage of a dialogue with the United States on the abolition of 25% duties on Ukrainian metallurgical products, Ukrainian Trade Representative Taras Kachka said during the conference "Trade wars: the art of protection."

According to Kachka, until recently, the dialogue with the United States was focused on agreeing on a resource agreement, but now Kiev has stepped up efforts on the issue of duties. In particular, consultations between the Ukrainian and American sides are scheduled to take place this week with the participation of U.

S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer.

"It is important for us to remove the duty on metal, both 25% and 10%. It is quite possible that we will achieve this. But now we are at the starting position," said Kachka.

The US administration imposed 25% duties on all steel and aluminum imports into the country in February this year. The increased tariffs became effective in March.

The share of metallurgical products in Ukrainian exports to the United States is 57.9%. According to the Ministry of Economy, this is 503.3 million dollars from 869.1 million dollars in total. The largest export items are cast iron ($363.4 million; 940 thousand tons), pipes ($112.9 million; 92 thousand tons), rods ($15.2 million; 3.3 thousand tons), wire ($4 million; 3.9 thousand tons), metal structures ($1.3 million; 182 tons).
