Ukraine to spend $100 million to repair port infrastructure

Ukraine is attracting more than one hundred million dollars of its own funds for the implementation of important projects in ports.

This was stated by the head of the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine Oleksandr Semirga, the Center for Transport Strategies writes.

"We are attracting more than one hundred million dollars of our own funds for the implementation of important projects – the repair of berths, railway infrastructure in ports, roads, buildings and other objects damaged or destroyed. But we invest not only in concrete and metal. We are investing in technology," emphasized Semirga.

The main efforts of the USPA are focused on critical areas: infrastructure, digitalization, international support, financing and upgrading of the technical fleet.

According to the official, Ukraine is actively implementing new technological solutions in ports: it attracts modern technologies, develops its own digital services, and learns from international partners how to effectively use drones for various types of work.

This saves time and money, Semirga emphasized during an industry round table dedicated to the development of transport infrastructure, which was held by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine together with Ernst & Young (EY).

"As an example: more than 60% of our fleet was built during the Soviet era, the cost of their maintenance is significant, and their components and spare parts are manufactured in Russia. Therefore, we are very limited in our ability to repair them. So part of the upgrade program is the creation of a drone technology center, as well as the purchase of a modern fleet, ships, pilot boats and other equipment for all Ukrainian ports," he explained.
