Review of global steel production and production capacities conducted by MEPs
The growth of steel production in China, new anti-dumping measures in Japan and South Korea and the decline in profits of EU steel companies are described in the review of steelmaking capacities of MEPs for this month.

Production - China
Chinese metallurgists produced 20.2 million tons of stainless steel in the first half of the year
Data released by the Stainless Steel Council, part of the Chinese Association of Ferrous Metallurgy, confirmed this figure, which represents an increase of 5.2%, or one million tons, compared to the same period in 2024. Of this total, 10.3 million tons accounted for 300 series, 3.8 million tons for 400 series and 5.85 million tons for 200 series. The remaining 235,000 tons were made of double-layered steel.
China imported 8.28 million tons of stainless steel between January and June, down 25.3% from last year, while exports increased 5.7% to 2.50 million tons.
HBIS Group of Companies
HBIS Group has commissioned a new continuous casting unit at its factory in Wuyang, Henan Province, China.
The capacity of the single-line installation, which will be completed in August 2025, is one million tons per year. It produces slabs with extra thicknesses from 370 mm to 460 mm and widths from 1600 mm to 2500 mm.
Primetals Technologies, which performed the installation on behalf of HBIS Group, says the casting machine is "the most powerful of its kind worldwide," emphasizing its ability to produce 5,000 kilotons of force during rolling.
Tsingtuo Group of Companies
Tsingtuo Group has signed an agreement with the government of Fuling District, Chongqing Province, to build a stainless steel processing plant.
The Chinese steel company, which has invested 280 million US dollars, has developed a capacity of 700,000 tons per year for the new enterprise. According to a government official, the annual production volume at the plant is expected to be about $1.4 billion when it reaches full capacity.
