Qatar has increased the duty on rebar

Qatar has imposed increased duties on imports of rebar and wire for 2026. This is reported by Mesteel with reference to the latest issue of the official Gazette of Qatar.

Customs duties increased to 10% of the value of goods from the previous 5%, according to the decree of the Emir No. (117) dated 2025.

The duty on these products was first introduced in 2024.

The move follows the approval by the Gulf Arab Cooperation Council (GCC) in June 2025 to extend customs duties on rebar and wire from 5% to 10% for one year.

However, market sources reported that the highest rate has only recently begun to be applied at Qatar customs.

By maintaining duties on these products, SteelOrbis notes, Qatar seeks to protect its domestic steel market, in particular from the risk of aggressive Chinese imports, as well as potential offers from Iran, although Iranian exports have remained limited recently.

At the same time, the country strives to remain an active exporter of rebar, especially to selected Asian markets when competitive prices appear.
