In March, China's steel production decreased by 6.3%

Steel production in China in March decreased by 6.3% compared to the same month last year, to 87.04 million tons, according to the country's State Statistical Office. In the first quarter, steel production decreased by 4.6% to 247.55 million tons.

Steel exports in March decreased by 12.6% to 9.13 million tons, and in three months – by 9.9% to 24.71 million tons.

Last month, pig iron output decreased by 3.3% to 73.28 million tons. In January-March, it decreased by 2.9% to 210.98 million tons.

Steel production decreased by 2.3% to 130.98 million tons in March, and by 1.7% to 351.44 million tons in the first quarter.

As reported, by the end of 2025, steel production in China decreased by 4.4% to 960.81 million tons, which was the lowest volume in seven years.
