Ferrous metallurgy of Kazakhstan in the red for the second year in a row
Production in the ferrous metallurgy sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan in January-August 2020 in monetary terms amounted to 1.1 trillion tenge - 6.2% less than in January-August 2019. Smelting volumes have declined for the second year in a row, last year in the same period the decline reached 6.8%.
Production in ferrous metallurgy in Kazakhstan is concentrated in three key regions: Karaganda region (442.3 billion tenge, plus 8.5% per year in monetary terms), where the metallurgical plant of ArcelorMittal is located; Pavlodar region (286.6 billion tenge, minus 18.7%) with KSP Steel and Aksu Ferroalloy Plant; Aktobe region (202.6 billion tenge, minus 14.6% in value terms), where the Aktobe ferroalloy plant operates.
In physical terms, the sector showed a significant increase in the production of sandwich panels made of coated steel sheet: by 31.4%, to 10.6 thousand tons. The production of flat products is also positive: by 11.1%, to 1.7 million tons.
The largest reduction was noted in the production of ribbed sheets of unalloyed steel: by 23.9%, to 62.4 thousand tons.
The production of untreated steel as a whole also decreased: by 17.5%, to 2.5 million tons, although the production of alloyed steel, on the contrary, increased - by 28.7%, to 3.9 thousand tons.
