Miners go to Kiev on protest action
December 18, at the buildings of the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in Kiev held a warning protest of miners and miners ' families, members of independent trade unions. This was announced by the Chairman of the Independent trade Union of miners of Ukraine Mikhail Volynets.
in Parallel on this day will be rallies, processions in towns and villages. Two shifts of miners will come from the mine, some mines will be suspended coal mining.
"Local councils in mining towns continue to send to the President of Ukraine message with a request not to allow the destruction of the coal industry and to ensure energy security of Ukraine", - said M. Volynets.
He also said that wage arrears to miners exceeded one billion hryvnias as of December 12.
Earlier it was reported that the Department of energy and environmental protection launched a programme of reforming the coal industry, which provides for the elimination of "hopeless" state-owned mines. Liquidation of unprofitable mines was named a priority of the decree of the President Zelensky dated November 8, 2019 № 837 "On urgent measures to reform and strengthen the state." In particular, it is proposed that the preparatory activities and the privatization of promising coal mines and restructuring (conservation) unpromising coal mines.
