Ukraine has reduced coal production by two million tons
For ten months of 2020, coal mining enterprises of Ukraine reduced production by 7.7% compared to the same period last year to 23 million 612.6 thousand tons. This was reported in Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the data of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
Coal mining enterprises, which are under the Ministry's control, in the period from January to October 2020, reduced production by 23.5% to 2 million 322.5 thousand tons.
The mines of the Donetsk region for ten months ensured the production of 8 million 939.3 thousand tons of coal (which is 1.3% less than the same period in 2019), the Luhansk region - 175.1 thousand tons (less than 40.7%) , Dnipropetrovsk - 13 million 404.9 thousand tons (-10.9%), Lviv - 1 million 62.8 thousand tons (-6.2%), Volynskaya - 30.9 thousand tons (-50.3 %).
In October 2020, raw coal production decreased by 5.1% (by 139.9 thousand tons) compared to the same month in 2019 - to 2 million 584 thousand tons.
Recall that in May 2020, at the national level, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine created a Coordination Center for the transformation of the coal regions of Ukraine, which included profile officials, heads of regional state administrations, people's deputies, representatives of coal mining enterprises, trade unions, associations of local government bodies. One of the main tasks of the center is to analyze the real state of the economy and social security in mining towns, looking for new directions for economic development and job creation.
At a meeting of the government of Ukraine in October this year, the Concept of reforming the coal mining industry and a plan of priority actions of the government in the coal industry were presented. It outlines the main problems of the coal mining industry and suggests possible solutions.
