China starts digital transformation of the country's coal industry
An innovative intelligent coal mine lab was set up Tuesday in the coal-rich Shanxi province of northern China to help digitalize the country's coal industry.
The lab, based in the provincial capital of Taiyuan, was jointly established by the Shanxi Provincial Government, Huawei Technologies and two local businesses.
The laboratory aims to help reduce the number of employees working in high-risk areas in coal mines, improve efficiency and safety levels, by expanding the scope of ICT (information and communication technologies).
Huawei President Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei hopes to combine ICT with coal mining technology to support the digital and intelligent transformation of the coal industry, implement a production model characterized by "fewer workers, higher safety and higher efficiency", and allow miners to "walk in a suit and wear a tie" at work.
