TMK: Russian metallurgists have gone through the entire cycle of AI technology development and are actively replicating them

Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) discussed the main factors of the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in industry at the International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM-2026. According to Dmitry Yakob, TMK's Deputy General Director for Information Technology, domestic metallurgists have already passed all the preparatory stages for using these solutions and are actively replicating them today.

Speaking at the session "Industry of the Future. Artificial intelligence and new horizons of operational efficiency," Dmitry Yakob noted that the company is "equipped with an arsenal of different AI tools throughout the production chain." "Their use gives us an annual recurring economic effect in the amount of two to three billion rubles, and the vast majority of this volume is accounted for by production activities," he said.

"If we use the technology development cycle known as the "Gartner Curve", which involves several stages, then metallurgists in a number of AI technologies, including machine learning and computer vision, are in the final phase — the "Productivity Plateau", at which the technology becomes widely used. We communicate closely, share experiences, and understand where and how individual solutions can be productively replicated," said Dmitry Jacob.

At the same time, he stressed that replication on an industrial scale is a complex task, because each production facility is unique and the technology used at one enterprise needs to be adapted for others. According to him, AI agents are also being tested in the company's corporate circuit, while taking into account information security requirements and restrictions on their use - this technology has the greatest prospects in administrative processes.

At the same time, the TMK representative believes that data is the basis for the introduction of new AI tools. Therefore, TMK is currently updating its corporate data model.

"It is necessary to give a unified definition of the data, their technical characteristics, the mechanisms of their transformation, to identify the principles of the appointment of their owner. All this is the basis of data quality, which, in turn, will make it possible for employees to create "data storefronts" according to their individual requests and will become the basis for building a data—based management principle in the company," said Dmitry Yakob.

At the same time, according to him, the next stage in the evolution of the management principle may be a model in which tactical decisions will be made by artificial intelligence in the form of AI agents.
