European collection of heavy rolled products: Italian distributors provide discounts on rolled products
Domestic prices for thick-sheet metal in Italy declined in the week to July 17, as distributors made last-ditch attempts to fill their order portfolios.
Activity began to slow down as the market entered the traditionally calm second half of summer, and the impact of new, stricter steel import quotas on the rolled steel market was limited, the sources said. As a result, EU factories did not attempt to raise prices, with the exception of a slight price recovery in Germany.
"Demand is too low, even with lower import volumes, to support the price increase for this product. We will see if re-rollers can sell more in Southern Europe due to lower import volumes," the distributor said.
It was reported about deals for the supply of s235jr brand plates to Italy at a price of 700-720 euros per ton from the factory. The aggressive pricing policy of some distributors and lower prices for imported slabs have created generally negative market sentiment.
There have been offers to import slabs from Asia at a price of $560-570 per ton to Italy, and the distributors expect to be able to receive additional discounts of about $ 20 per ton.
In addition, some sources suggested that Russian exporters may return with their semi-finished steel products, which will be shipped in October due to the start of a new quota period, which will give an advantage to manufacturers of rolled products using cheaper materials as raw materials.
In Germany, prices for s235jr plates on the domestic market are 800-830 euros per ton from the factory.
The manufacturer from the Czech Republic offers the s355jr plate at a price of 810 euros per ton with delivery to Germany.
