The Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) has become the winner of the annual National Award in the field of environmental technologies "ECOTECH-LEADER 2026". The winner in the "Perspective" nomination was the construction project of the Pervouralsky Novotrubny Plant industrial waste landfill (PNTZ, TMK branch).
The landfill is intended for the safe disposal of industrial waste of the fourth (low-hazard) and fifth (practically non-hazardous) hazard classes. Waste of the third class (moderately hazardous) will also be neutralized on the territory of the landfill, which will reduce their volume and reduce the hazard class. After processing, the waste will be placed on a specially prepared site with a protective geomembrane that will prevent substances from entering the soil and groundwater.
The landfill is based on the best available technologies, its creation corresponds to the state policy in the field of environmental development of Russia in terms of environmentally sound waste management, including reducing their formation, reducing their danger level and involving them in reuse, developing the infrastructure for their neutralization and safe disposal, as well as ecological restoration of used territories.
The design of the facility has already been completed. The project has successfully passed public hearings, two public environmental assessments, and in April 2026 received a positive conclusion from the state environmental assessment for a period of ten years, which confirmed its environmental safety. A state expert examination of the project documentation is currently underway — a comprehensive assessment of compliance with all standards, including construction standards, following which a decision will be made on the start of construction.
Upon successful completion of all procedures, the facility is scheduled to be put into operation in 2028. The operation period of the landfill will be 17 years, after which the territory will be reclaimed in accordance with the requirements of environmental legislation.
