Boeing Recommends Suspension of 777 Aircraft with Pratt & Whitney 4000 Engines
American aircraft manufacturer Boeing on Sunday recommended suspending operation of the 777 series airliners powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines until the FAA determines the appropriate inspection protocol.
"During the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, we recommend that the 69 operational and 59 in storage 777 series airliners powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines be suspended until the FAA determines an appropriate inspection protocol ", the company said in a message.
As a reminder, a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 made an emergency landing at Denver International Airport on Saturday after its right engine failed and exploded during the flight. Onboard there were 241 people, including 231 passengers and 10 crew members. None of them were injured during the landing. Debris that fell from the burning engine scattered across three nearby blocks without causing any harm.
The next day, United Airlines announced the decommissioning of 24 Boeing 777 aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration said they would issue an emergency directive and require enhanced flight checks of Boeing 777s with the same type of engine that was installed on the plane that suffered an accident in Denver.
