Kirov plant OCM produced an experimental batch of products
The Kirov non-ferrous metal processing plant, which is part of the UMMC group, has produced an experimental batch of copper transformer tape 0.8-1.3 mm thick and 100-400 mm wide with a rolled (rounded) edge.
Alexander Agafonov, Deputy Chief Engineer - Head of Production Department:- Copper transformer tape is a standard product for our enterprise, but at the same time, a tape with a rolled (rounded) edge was produced for the first time. A trial batch (120 tons) of products was produced for a new customer.
During the execution of the order, the consumer noted the need to change the geometry of the section of the tape. Although the original order was placed with a requirement to cut the edge at a 90° angle. The fact is that in the process of winding the transformer, paper is laid between the turns of the copper tape, and the sharp edges of the tape cut through it. Therefore, it was decided to carry out an additional operation to run in (round off) the edges of the tape.
For this purpose, a removable break-in unit was designed and installed on the cutting line. The tape, passing through the assembly, which is two side rollers with grooves, as well as upper and lower wires (wooden clamps covered with felt), acquires a rounded edge at the exit.
The entire trial batch of copper transformer tape with a rolled (rounded) edge was sent to the consumer. After the quality assessment, a decision will be made on placing further orders.
