Modernization of roller furnace No. 1 for 1.4 billion rubles started at CherMK
The complex of repair works at the key Severstal enterprise will increase the production of heat-treated rolled products, including high-strength and wear-resistant steels of the POWERS range.

Roller furnace No. 1 serves to give the metal the necessary strength properties, said Evgeny Vinogradov, General Director of the Severstal Russian Steel division and Resource assets.
"Modernization of the unit will increase the volume of production of thick-sheet high-strength steel sheet with heat treatment. This includes high–strength Powerweld and Powerhard products for the heavy automotive industry, the production of lifting, road construction and other special equipment. One of the effects of the investment measure worth 1.4 billion rubles will be a reduction in specific gas consumption and CO2 generation due to modern heating systems. In addition, the investment project involves the installation of new burners, which will increase the temperature range of metal heating in the furnace in the range from 150 to 1000 degrees Celsius. This, in turn, will lead to an increase in the total output of heat-treated sheet to 18 thousand tons per year."The installation and testing of hot air/gas pipelines and the furnace itself is ongoing as part of the investment project. After the upgrade, its length will increase by 4 meters to 58 meters, which will increase the average productivity of the unit by 7%.
In addition to the furnace itself, peripheral equipment is also being replaced, including the modernization of a magnetic cart designed to load rolled metal into the furnace.
The supplier of the equipment was Severstal Digital Solutions.
