Volzhsky Pipe Plant has launched a complex of equipment for the production of continuously cast billets
The plant will be able to produce blanks, including those made of stainless and corrosion-resistant steel grades of austenitic and martensitic grades. Putting the complex into commercial operation will give VTZ (part of the Pipe Metallurgical Company) the opportunity to expand the range of products.

During the modernization, the vacuum-oxygen refining unit was put into operation at the VTZ electric steelmaking plant and the continuous casting machine No. 2 (MNLZ-2) was upgraded.
The new installation makes it possible to remove excess carbon from molten steel through the use of vacuum-oxygen refining technology, which improves the quality of the metal. During the modernization, the MNLZ-2 was equipped with an additional circuit for electromagnetic mixing of metal, air-water cooling systems and individual control of the hydraulic system of properly pulling crates. In addition, the installation was equipped with an automatic feeding device for slag-forming mixtures, which helps to improve the quality of the workpiece.
For TMK, the expansion of its own steel production and the development of new grades of steel and alloys is a strategic priority, said Sergey Chikalov, CEO of TMK.
"Thanks to the new equipment, we will increase our capacity and be able to produce high-quality blanks with diameters from 150 to 360 mm, designed for the manufacture of stainless pipes. This is how the company responds to the needs of consumers from the energy, petrochemical and other industries and helps them solve current technological challenges."The Engineering Center of the FSUE State Scientific Center carried out the development of design documentation for the modernization of the MNLZ-2."TsNIIchermet named after I.

The Volga Pipe Plant was founded in 1970. Since 2001, VTZ has been a part of TMK and is one of the leading Russian pipe industry enterprises.
The company produces more than 800 standard sizes of pipes for various purposes: seamless general purpose pipes (pipes for mechanical engineering); seamless oil pipeline pipes, casing pipes and couplings to them; pipes for steam boilers and steam pipelines; pipes for the oil refining and chemical industries (cracking pipes); stainless pipes, bearing pipes. As well as round and square steel blanks.
The products are widely used in the oil and gas industry, energy, mechanical engineering, utilities, oil refining and chemical industries.
