The new infrastructure facility of Olkon JSC (part of Severstal) will provide efficient maintenance of mining equipment at the Komsomolsk and Pechegubsky quarries in the Murmansk Region. These deposits currently account for about 50% of the total ore and rock production at the plant. The creation of its own repair base is part of the company's strategy to increase concentrate production by 2027 and maintain its level until 2040. The complex includes an industrial building with an area of 4,000 square meters. m and the administrative and household building. The repair area is designed for six maintenance posts for dump trucks with a lifting capacity from 130 to 220 tons. The workshops are equipped with crane beams with a lifting capacity of up to 50 tons, modern ventilation systems, an oil storage and a specialized washing machine.
The opening of the complex allows us to comprehensively solve several strategic tasks, said Nikolay Seleznev, CEO of Olcon.
"Firstly, we create comfortable and safe working conditions for our staff. Secondly, we expect to increase the technical availability of dump trucks and auxiliary equipment due to a modern repair site. This will make it possible to increase the volume of rock removal without additional purchases of machinery. In addition, the project is important from an environmental point of view: a fully closed water cycle has been implemented at the site – process water is purified and returned to production without entering the environment."The construction of the facility took one year and nine months. The complex is completely autonomous: it is equipped with independent heating and water supply systems, as well as backup diesel power plants. The building of the administrative building is equipped with workrooms and living rooms (changing rooms, showers, saunas), designed for staff of up to 370 people.
