A blank casing for a SNF container weighing over 115 tons was cast at Ural Steel

The ingot was made by order of Techsnabexport from high-strength cast iron modified with spherical graphite (HCG). The product meets the technical specifications for products of such a responsible purpose. This is the first heavy cast from HCG in the country's history.

In the future, this technology will be used in the manufacture of containers for the transportation and long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel and vitrified radioactive waste.

Previously, such solutions were supplied by foreign manufacturers. Now the technology has been implemented in Russia.

Afrikantov Design Bureau and TSNIITMASH specialists also participated in the implementation of the unique project.

Techsnabexport (TENEX) is the world's largest supplier of nuclear fuel cycle (NFC) products, providing a significant part of the needs of foreign–designed reactors for uranium enrichment services. The Techsnabexport company was established in 1963 in the system of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Trade to ensure the fulfillment of state tasks in the field of product exports.
