At the end of 2025, CherMK recycled a record amount of waste from pig iron production
Cherepovets Metallurgical Combine (a key asset of Severstal) reached a record volume of blast furnace sludge dewatering in December 2025 – 11,592 tons.

In 2025, the total volume of sludge amounted to 97.6 thousand tons, which is 41% more than in 2024. Of these, 70 thousand tons were sent to the production cycle (used in the production of agglomerate).
The use of gas cleaning sludge in agglomerate production has made it possible to reduce the consumption of expensive iron ore concentrates and reduce the environmental burden by reducing the volume of disposal, said Evgeny Vinogradov, General Director of the Severstal Russian Steel division and resource assets.
"The result was achieved thanks to a set of technical and organizational measures: the simultaneous launch of two vacuum filters and the creation of a unified sludge supply scheme from all blast furnaces to the sludge processing site. The modes of material collection, transportation and dosing have also been revised. One of the factors contributing to the successful development of the technology was the implementation of a program to improve the reliability and productivity of production lines."In 2026, the company plans to implement a set of investment measures to install a new vacuum filter and replace pumps at the zinc-containing sludge processing site, which will increase the volume of sludge dewatering to almost 115 thousand tons per year.
