Severstal invested more than 100 billion rubles in the reconstruction of CherMK's main technological equipment in 2025.
104 major repairs were carried out at the site during the year, as well as more than 700 investment events.
After being stopped for major repairs of the first category at CherMK, blast furnace No. 4 "Vologzhanka" was launched in August 2025. It produces 2.4 million tons of pig iron and is the third largest pig iron producer out of the five furnaces at the plant. In total, there are five blast furnaces operating at the CherMK site. The first–class overhaul of the blast furnace No. 4 "Volgozhanka" is a key event of 2025. The volume of investments in the technical re-equipment of CherMK's third blast furnace amounted to 22 billion rubles.
The retrofitting of the unit makes it possible to produce cast iron at DP-4 with an increased proportion of iron ore pellets and reduced solid fuel consumption, which is important from the point of view of efficiency and environmental impact. In addition, the furnace was equipped with a highly efficient aspiration system.
In 2025, after major repairs, the largest in the last 10 years, steelmaking converter No. 3 was launched in a complex with two steel casting plants. The volume of investments in the project amounted to 2.8 billion rubles. Thus, in 2024-2025, all three converters at CherMK were replaced with new ones, while two of them were manufactured by Severstal machine builders. The re-equipment program is aimed at maintaining the technical readiness of CherMK's key equipment and compliance with modern environmental standards.
The company invested half a billion rubles in the overhaul of mill 2000 (the largest hot rolling mill, which produces 65% of CherMK's products). Special attention is paid to investment measures, including the introduction of a measuring cutting system on a roughing group of crates. The new complex will allow automatic cutting of hot rolled products into segments of a given length without stopping the process, which will increase productivity, accuracy of operations and quality of finished products.
To increase the efficiency of repair activities, Severstal develops internal competencies for complex, often unique work. For example, mobile processing technologies, where equipment is repaired on site without dismantling. For this purpose, a specialized repair shop has been set up in the SSM-Tyazhmash machine-building center. Our own competencies ensure independence in emergency situations, avoid downtime and involve third-party specialists.
