Pervouralsky Novotrubny Plant has increased the share of waste recycling from electric steelmaking

PNTZ (part of the Pipe Metallurgical Company) has started shipping gas purification dust from the electric steelmaking plant (ESPC) to a specialized enterprise, where valuable components are extracted from it for reuse.

The initiative will significantly reduce the volume of industrial waste disposal and will have an economic effect of 10 million rubles per year.

The project allows you to close the cycle of using the material. Zinc entering the refinery as part of scrap metal is collected by dust collection units during the melting process along with other impurities in the form of metallurgical dust, which is transferred for processing and again becomes a source for the production of zinc oxide.

At the processing plant, zinc oxide will be produced from recycled materials from PNTZ using leading technology. This is a critically important raw material for the production of metallic zinc, a non—ferrous metal in demand in the Russian industry. It is used for galvanizing steel elements of equipment, machinery and building structures.

Earlier, as part of the project on effective waste management, equipment for the separation, processing and reuse of molding sand from the molding foundry, which is formed during the production of castings, was put into operation at the PNTZ. In addition, the company effectively handles steelmaking waste.

The technologies used at the enterprise make it possible to return up to 20% of the slagged metal for remelting in order to produce new pipe products, and the by—products of the steelmaking process, for example, slag crushed stone, are processed and used by PNTZ for its own needs or sold to other companies, including for infrastructure construction.
