Consumption of aluminum products in the Russian Federation increased by 20% compared to 2022

The Russian aluminum industry continues to show signs of recovery. This was announced during the annual general meeting of the Aluminum Association. Compared to 2022, the production of aluminum products in the country increased by 8%, and its consumption by 20%.

"Despite external challenges and macroeconomic factors, the industry managed to maintain aluminum consumption almost at the level of the previous year – 1.4 million tons. Energy, packaging industry and transport can become long—term drivers of development," the message says.

The leading consumer of aluminum is traditionally construction, which accounts for about a quarter of the total metal consumed in the country. Despite the decrease in the launch of new projects and the volume of residential square meters, the share of "aluminization" is growing in this segment.

Aluminum is increasingly used in the construction of residential, commercial, social buildings and residential housing projects. The range of domestic enterprises offers a wide range of products for building facades, indoor interiors, as well as landscaping of adjacent infrastructure. A striking example is aluminum windows, the share of which has increased from 20% to 32% over the past five years. Aluminum structures are becoming the basis of modern construction, which, when its pace returns to normal, will give an instant and significant impetus to the development of the industry.

Imports maintain a stable share of aluminum consumption in Russia — about 10%. However, if we add to this the volume of aluminum products that come as part of finished products, its share will double.

One of the segments most protected from disasters is the packaging industry. Despite the problems of the consumer market (declining purchasing power, the trend towards household savings), aluminum bank has maintained its leading position.

Capacity development will increase production to at least 17.5 billion cans by 2030. This opens up a window of opportunity, especially for small beverage producers who previously could not receive this type of packaging. It is expected that even with stagnant revenues, the bank will help increase consumption of aluminum products.

The high depreciation of existing power grids, up to 72%, may be one of the factors contributing to the growth of aluminum consumption in the energy industry. The expansion of the use of cable and wire products will increase aluminum consumption in the energy segment by 14%. In addition to the modernization of power grids, additional
