"Nickel output increased slightly in the first quarter," said Evgeny Fedorov, First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "At the same time, the output of other metals decreased mainly due to the effect of the high base in the first quarter of last year and the redistribution of marketable output between quarters."Among the achievements of Norilsk Nickel in the first quarter is bringing the environmental Sulfur program to full capacity. A third sulfuric acid production line and a fourth neutralization line have been commissioned at the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant (NMZ). As a result, sulfur dioxide emissions at NMZ are expected to decrease by 90% from the 2020 baseline. The Kola site is also continuing to implement an environmental program that will allow for an additional 10% reduction in sulfur dioxide emissions in the future.
In addition, one of the important stages of the development of the Glubokaya mine and the Skalisty mine was completed in the Zapolyarnoye Division. An exploration shaft was built at a depth of 1.5 km, through which the extracted ore will be transported to the surface. Bringing the Skalisty mine to full capacity is one of the company's key mining projects aimed at increasing production in the medium term.
Commissioning work on the feinstein refining improvement project has begun in the refining workshop of the Kola site. Thanks to this project, it is planned to change the production scheme and reduce the loss of precious metals.
"Taking into account all implemented measures aimed at improving operational efficiency, the company confirms the forecast of metal production for 2026 at the level previously published," Norilsk Nickel summarized.
