Rolling Mill 150 produces wire rod—a steel billet ranging in diameter from 5.5 to 13.5 millimeters and made from more than 100 steel grades. It is subsequently used to make a variety of metal products: wire, strands, cables, strip and nails.

More than 300 specialists from BMK and other Mechel Group companies took part in the overhaul. They inspected the mill’s mechanisms, replaced worn assemblies and parts, and repaired power equipment, instrumentation and automation systems, pipelines and crane equipment. They also renewed the masonry of the walking-beam furnace and restored the slat conveyor. The roughing group rolling stand gearbox and the main drive gearbox of the pinch roll unit were replaced, and work was completed to relocate the recirculating water system, which ensures stable operation of the roller-hearth furnace and the walking-beam furnace.

“The rolling mill is the starting point in BMK’s metal products production chain. A high-quality and timely major overhaul ensures the mill operates reliably throughout the following year,” said Alexey Tolstikov, CEO of BMK JSC.
