US may end investigation into carbon steel imports from Russia and Ukraine
US authorities may terminate a previously suspended investigation of imports of heavy plate carbon steel from Russia and Ukraine. This is stated in a statement posted on Tuesday by the US Federal Trade Commission on the so-called federal register - a collection of official documents of the American government.
“The Commission hereby notifies the schedule of expedited inspections under the Tariffs Act 1930 to determine whether the lifting of the anti-dumping ruling on thick plate of carbon steel from China and the end of the suspended investigations of plate of carbon steel from Russia and Ukraine, to the continuation or repetition of material damage in a reasonably foreseeable time, "the document says.
The document also emphasizes that the commission called on all interested parties to express their views on this issue by May 20.
In early March, the US Department of Commerce announced that the termination of the suspended investigation could lead to a resumption of dumping with an average margin of up to 185% for Russia and up to 237.91% for Ukraine.
On November 3, 2020, the US Department of Commerce announced the launch of a procedure to review the status of suspended anti-dumping investigations in relation to imports of carbon steel from Russia and Ukraine.
