Rostec has created a fog light for the "city of the future"
Shvabe Holding of Rostec State Corporation has created an experimental sample of a traffic light that projects a laser “wall” into the air, warning drivers about approaching a pedestrian crossing at a distance of up to 200 meters. The barrier is activated automatically or programmatically in poor visibility conditions. The device will help to reduce the number of accidents at regulated pedestrian crossings.
One of the key features of the Visual Intelligent Control (VIC) traffic light is a laser unit that projects a barrage signal into the air for drivers. From the outside, it looks like a series of parallel lines that, from a distance of 100 to 200 meters, warn of the location of the road zebra. The signal is clearly visible in darkness and fog.
VIC traffic light can be equipped with various additional modules that expand its functionality. These include a video analytics device with a camera, a meteorological station module and an ecological sensor of environmental parameters, a Wi-Fi access point, and a road surface icing assessment system due to the reflection of the sent infrared rays from the surface. Thus, one object combines several elements of the "smart city" at once.
“In Russia annually there are more than 5 thousand pedestrian raids at traffic lights. The device created by our specialists increases the comfort and safety of road traffic. The traffic light features flexible functionality, high reliability and maintainability due to its modular design. It only takes a few minutes to add or replace a module. In the near future, such traffic lights will become a familiar part of the smart city systems created by Shvabe and other Rostec holdings, ”said Ivan Ozhgikhin, Deputy General Director of Shvabe.
An experimental sample of the device was developed by the industrial design center of the Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant named after E.S. Yalamov, part of the Shvabe holding.
