Dnipro Metallurgical Plant will remove the unpleasant smell of coke-chemical from the city air
Deputies of the Dnipro City Council at the session on October 20, 2021 made changes to the "Comprehensive program of environmental safety and the implementation of sustainable development of the city of Dnipro for 2021-2025".
The city program includes additional environmental projects of the Dnieper Metallurgical Plant (DMZ) of Alexander Yaroslavsky. The company has undertaken to fulfill:
- technical re-equipment of the smokeless charging system for coke oven batteries. This provides for the transition from steam injection technology to hydroinjection, which will significantly reduce the specific odor that occurs during the production of coke. The project is at the start of implementation, the total investment will be 30 million hryvnia;
- implementation of a dust suppression system at the ore yard of the blast furnace shop. The DMZ will allocate UAH 5 million for this reconstruction and expects to reduce the volume of emissions by at least 11.5 tons per year.
These projects are part of the DMZ environmental program worth UAH 260 million. The factory program provides for overhaul of coke oven batteries with re-laying of heating walls and the use of ceramic surfacing technology.
Other projects for the modernization of production will also be implemented, which will reduce the technogenic load in the zone of influence of the enterprise. In addition, the expansion of the atmospheric air monitoring system is planned in the near future. The sensor data will be available online, and the city authorities will control the work of posts and the correctness of the data.
