Kryvbaszhelezrudkom discharges mine water without proper treatment - State Environmental Inspection

The State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine has completed an unscheduled inspection of Kryvbaszhelezrudcom JSC, which discharges mine water into the Svistunova Balka storage rates in Kryvyi Rih. Inspectors found insufficient treatment of water resources and water intake without appropriate permission. This was reported by the press service of the State Ecological Inspectorate.

The control measure at JSC "Kryvbaszhelrudcom" was carried out on the basis of the order of the Prime Minister Denis Shmygal regarding inspections of economic entities that use water. Specialists of the State Environmental Inspection in Kryvyi Rih paid special attention to the issue of mine water management.

Based on the results of the audit, a number of violations were identified. In particular, JSC "Kryvbaszhelezrudkom" pumps out mine water to prevent flooding of mines and transfers it to the storage head "Balka Svistunova" without proper cleaning. Such effluents contain chlorides, ammonium nitrogen, suspended solids, iron, oil products, nitrates, nitrites, sulfates, phenols, phosphates, BSK5. Pollutants have a negative impact on the general condition of the Ingulets River, which is an important source of drinking and domestic water supply.

The state enterprise "Kryvbassshakhtozakrytie", which has the storage pond "Balka Svistunova", does not have a permit for special water use. Therefore, the reception of mine water is carried out in violation. Responsible persons of JSC "Kryvbaszhelezrudkom" have already been brought to administrative responsibility.

Specialists of the State Environmental Inspection issued an order to eliminate the identified violations. This should prompt the enterprise to find alternative ways of handling mine water. The introduction of modern environmental technologies will reduce the negative impact of mine waters on the state of water bodies in the region.

Let us remind you that since the beginning of this year the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine fined enterprises of various types of property for more than three billion hryvnia.
