Ukraine reduced the procurement of scrap metal by 73%, and its export by 13 times
In January-September of this year, Ukrainian scrap collectors reduced the procurement of scrap metal by 73.5% compared to the same period last year - up to 830 thousand tons from 3.135 million tons.
As reported in the operational information of the Ukrainian association of secondary metals (UAVtormet), the supply of scrap metal to the country's metallurgical enterprises for 9 months of 2022 decreased by 70.1% compared to January-September 2021 - to 755.5 thousand tons from 2.530 million tons.
As of October 1, 2022, the level of scrap metal stocks at Ukrainian steel mills is estimated by the association at 35-40 thousand tons.
It is also reported that Ukraine has reduced the export of ferrous metal scrap by 12.9 times compared to the same period last year - up to 35.275 thousand tons.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS), in monetary terms, the export of scrap metal over this period decreased by 13.9 times - to 12.640 million dollars.
Ukrainian scrap metal exports were mainly directed to Turkey (59.42%), Poland (15.34%) and Germany (9.41%).
