ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih does not understand why not put duties on steel from Belarus

"ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" (AMKR) considers it necessary to immediately begin a review of a decision of the Interdepartmental Commission on international trade, since the decision to introduce a fee with a zero rate on import of products of Belarusian metallurgical plant (BMZ) prejudice to the interests of the Ukrainian steel producers, and is a violation of international trade rules. This is stated in the message AMKR Friday.

Import Belarusian steel in Ukraine increased by 46 thousand tonnes from 2015 to 2017 (the investigation period) – from 1 thousand tons to 47 tons per year, then 2017 and 2018 it has increased by 80 thousand tonnes (47 thousand tons to 127 thousand tons). It is proved that significant growth occurred due to violation of rules of trade, noted in AMKR.

the company was reminded that the July 2, 2018, the Interdepartmental Commission on international trade initiated an anti-dumping investigation regarding imports of long products from Moldova and Belarus to Ukraine. The results of the investigation were officially published on 6 December 2019.

"In accordance with the trade policy of Ukraine the results showed obvious evidence of the presence of dumping, violations of the rules and regulations of trade, which caused damage to the Ukrainian producers of rolled steel products, including "ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog" - said the press service, adding that the Moldovan manufacturer of steel, namely JSC "Moldova steel works" was applied anti-dumping duty of 13.8% at 5 years.

"the Decision not to impose duties on Belarusian imports is puzzling, given the overwhelming evidence that trade rules were violated and Ukrainian steel producers were harmed. This needs to be corrected as soon as possible", - said Anastasia Tatarola, Deputy General Director for marketing and sales "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih".
