Mariupol Metallurgical Plant certified the Primetals Technologies unit
The Mariupol Metallurgical Plant (MMKI) has issued final acceptance certificates for a slab-making machine, a double ladle furnace with an alloying station and an associated dust extraction system. The Primetals Technologies plant is designed to produce 2.5 million metric tons of slabs per year. Thus, MMKI increased its annual production capacity to four million metric tons of steel, and also expanded its product portfolio, including HC, UHC, ULC steel.
MMKI produces steel with three LD (BOF) converters. A new 150 metric ton double ladle furnace from Primetals Technologies and its associated alloying station helps to establish the desired steel grades and the correct casting temperature. This became possible thanks to automation, which allows pre-selection of process models. A transformer rated at 28 MVA provides electrical power to the ladle furnace, increasing the heating rate to 4.5 degrees Celsius per minute. In addition, this heating rate and the guaranteed energy consumption value were even exceeded during start-up.
Primetals Technologies has developed a dust extraction system for cleaning waste gases from a metallurgical plant. This improves the environmental situation in the city of Mariupol, where the IMCI is located. The dust removal system reduces the dust content in flue gases to a level of 12 mg /m3 (maximum), while Ukrainian standards require up to 50 mg /m3, and European standards require up to 30 mg /m3.
