ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih continues the reconstruction of sinter plant No. 2
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih continues a large-scale eco-modernization of sinter shop No. 2. This is one of the company's key investment projects that will improve the efficiency of gas cleaning equipment and reduce dust emissions. In September, the enterprise began the reconstruction of sinter machine No. 2, which will last 120 days. At the moment, the dismantling of the outdated sinter machine, its gas manifold, and linear cooler structures is being completed. Electrostatic precipitator No. 2 is under construction - its frame has already been assembled, electrodes and conveyors are being installed. In parallel, work is underway at other facilities of the workshop, which are also part of the reconstruction project. Among them is the building of the central exhaust station, where the aspiration equipment and old gas ducts are dismantled. They will be replaced by a new efficient suction system.
In the course of the modernization of the second sinter machine, the gas cleaning, the incendiary furnace will be replaced with a more modern and energy efficient one, sintering trolleys with an increase in the sintering layer up to 450 mm, and a complete replacement of the gas system, linear cooler and its blowing fans will be carried out. The sintering machine will be equipped with new double-cone valves and a closed-type dust conveyor on the gas manifold, which will prevent dust.
In addition, buildings and structures that are part of the sintering machine complex No. 2 will be repaired. In the course of work, a new process automation system will be introduced. All this will significantly reduce dust emissions from the sintering machine and achieve higher productivity and equipment reliability.
In total, the second sinter shop operates six sintering machines, each of which is gradually updated. After reconstruction, new gas-cleaning equipment and electrostatic precipitators made in Italy and Denmark have already been installed on four sintering machines of the shop. New combustion furnaces with an energy efficient ignition system have also been installed, thereby reducing natural gas consumption. As a result of the renovation of the second sinter shop, dust emissions from each of the six sintering machines will be reduced by 250 tons per year. The total cost of the project for the reconstruction of sinter shop No. 2 is over $ 180 million.
