By 2030, Ukraine will fully switch to electric public transport

Ukraine supports the use of ecological modes of transport in cities, therefore, within the framework of the National Transport Strategy until 2030, it plans to completely replace all urban public transport with electric one and create the appropriate infrastructure for this. This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure Wladyslaw Krykliy today, November 19, during the Global e-Mobility Forum, organized by the Ministry of Climate and Environment of the Republic of Poland.

The Forum was also attended by the Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland Michal Kurtika, European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean, officials and government representatives from the UK, Sweden, Czech Republic, Norway, Switzerland, Andorra, Portugal, Greece, Egypt and other countries. “We support the use of ecological modes of transport in cities, in particular urban electric and electric vehicles.

“The National Transport Strategy of Ukraine until 2030 stipulates that cities will replace their vehicle fleet with electric buses, and an appropriate charging infrastructure will be created for them. In this direction, we are now actively cooperating with international financial organizations and are preparing for the implementation of the second phase of the joint project with the EIB "Urban public transport of Ukraine II", which provides for the renewal of public transport parks in various Ukrainian cities and their replacement exclusively with electric transport ", - said Vladislav Krikliy.

In addition, together with business and the public, the Ministry has developed a draft strategy for the development of the automotive industry in Ukraine, which provides incentives for the domestic production of electric cars, and also takes into account the popularization of both private and public electric transport. Vladislav Krykliy added that the Ministry is actively ill and fully supports the extension of the exemption from VAT on the import of electric vehicles into Ukraine, and at one time made a lot of efforts to abolish this duty and VAT on electric cars.

Also, the department initiated and actively joined the development of key changes to state building codes in terms of placing electric stations on the roads. “Today in Ukraine there are about 25,000 electric cars, 25,000 hybrids and almost 9,000 points of electric charging stations, located mainly in cities.

“We have initiated and are already working on introducing new amendments to the SNiP on planning and development of territories, which would allow the placement of electric charging stations on all public roads, including local ones,” the minister summed up.

Recall that on September 9, at its meeting, the Government supported the draft law "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine" On Automobile Transport "developed by the Ministry of Infrastructure. It clearly defines in the legislation of Ukraine the term “electric vehicle” (“electric vehicle”), “electric bus”, “charging station for electric vehicles”, “freight electric car”, “light electric car”, “hybrid electric car”, “plug-in hybrid electric car”.
