Ukraine held its 13th position among 62 steel-producing countries in October
Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 161.9 million tonnes in October 2020, up 7.0% from October 2019. In ten months from the beginning of 2020, global steel production decreased by 2% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1.511 billion tons.
As the association warned, due to the ongoing difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many of this month's figures are estimates that could be revised with production data next month.
In Asia, China produced 92.2 million tons of steel in October 2020, which is 12.7% more than in October 2019. India produced 9.1 million tons of steel in October 2020, which is 0 , 9% more than in October 2019. Japan produced 7.2 million tons of steel in October 2020, which is 11.7% less than in October 2019. South Korea's crude steel production in October 2020 was 5.9 million tonnes, 1.8% less than in October 2019.
In the European Union, Germany produced 3.4 million tonnes of steel in October 2020, up 3.1% on October 2019. Italy produced 2.1 million tonnes of steel in October 2020, down 4.6% from October 2019. Spain produced 1.1 million tonnes of steel in October. 2020, which is 7.7% less than in October 2019
In North America, the United States produced 6.1 million tonnes of steel in October 2020, down 15.3% from October 2019.
In the CIS, steel production is estimated at 8.4 million tons in October 2020, which is 4.7% more than in October 2019. Ukraine produced 1.7 million tons of steel in October 2020, which is 5.9% more than in October 2019.
Turkey's steel production in October 2020 was 3.2 million tonnes, 19.4% more than in October 2019.
In South America, Brazil produced 2.8 million tonnes of steel in October 2020, up 3.5% over October 2019.
