Chinese contractor of new pelletizing plant visited ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih
Last week, on December 15, representatives of Sinosteel, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih's partner in the implementation of this large investment project, visited the production site, prepared for the construction of a new pelletizing plant. Construction manager Zhu Chin-yen and engineer Mo Wenbin assessed the degree of readiness of the construction site, discussed with the management of the enterprise the general plan of future construction, the schedule of works, a list of project documentation and customs clearance issues.
At the moment, the basic engineering of the construction of a modern pelletizing plant is being developed. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is doing this together with Sinosteel, which was selected as a supplier of main equipment in September this year. Sinosteel provides engineering and technical services to metallurgical enterprises around the world, as well as manufactures equipment.
The new pelletizing plant will be able to produce up to 5 million tons of pellets per year. They will be used as raw materials for blast furnaces, partially replacing sinter. This will make it possible to abandon the production of sinter in the two operating sinter shops. Thanks to the operation of the new pelletizing plant, the closure of two sinter shops and the reconstruction of sinter shop No. 2, the total volume of pollutant emissions is expected to decrease by 78 thousand tons, as well as a decrease in the total volume of CO2 emissions by 800 thousand tons per year.
The commissioning of the pelletizing plant and the future reconstruction of blast furnace No. 9 will make it possible to achieve a significant reduction in coke consumption in the sinter-blast process, which will also entail a reduction in pollutant emissions. ArcelorMittal's investments in the construction of a new pelletizing plant will exceed $ 250 million. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih intends to complete the renovation of the sinter production in 2023, which will lead to a significant reduction in the industrial load on the environment.
