The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine presented a study of energy consumption for metal processing
The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine, together with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, within the framework of the technical cooperation project "Consulting Enterprises on Energy Efficiency", is working to raise awareness of energy efficiency and energy saving potential of Ukrainian enterprises. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy on Thursday.
"The goal of the project is to demonstrate the economic and technical feasibility of energy efficiency measures in companies," the ministry said.
The results of energy audits carried out within the framework of projects at 18 enterprises of the machine-building industry are set out in brochure " How much energy is spent on metal processing for the manufacture of machines and mechanisms? ", Which GIZ (Energy Efficiency and Climate Projects) presented with the support of the Ministry of Economy and State Energy Efficiency of Ukraine.
This short analytical report illustrates the structure of energy consumption, the cost of energy used to manufacture products, the potential for energy saving and specific energy efficiency measures, and also provides data on the volume of greenhouse gas emissions from machine-building enterprises in Ukraine.
The report will be of interest to company directors, company owners and investors in the Ukrainian engineering industry.
Several important findings from the study:
- the engineering industry is heavily dependent on electricity: this energy accounts for 50.4% of total energy consumption;
- production processes account for 85.5% of the energy consumed;
- Consumption groups that are promising in terms of energy saving include:
- heating,
- ventilation and air conditioning,
- generation and supply of heat, lighting,
- power generation and distribution,
- production processes,
- compressed air production and others;
- the total annual energy consumption by metallurgical enterprises ranges from 0.4 to 62.7 GWh.
