Integration into ENTSO-E: Ukrhydroenergo prepares to enter the European energy market
Integration of the Ukrainian energy system with the European ENTSO-E is possible in the near future. Director of the Secretariat of the Energy Community (ES) Janez Kopach and Chairman of the Board of NEC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudritskiy announced this at the Ukraine30 forum.
According to them, Ukraine has already carried out most of the main capital-intensive technical measures in terms of the corresponding reconstruction of thermal power units and frequency and power control systems, the construction of network elements in the form of necessary substations and power lines, testing of all power units of TPPs, hydroelectric power plants and nuclear power plants. According to experts, having solved the latest technical and organizational issues, Ukraine will be able to integrate its energy system into ENTSO-E already in 2023.
“We expect that already in the middle of next year ENTSO-E will formulate its technical verdict that the Ukrainian energy system is capable of joining the European one without negative consequences for both energy systems,” stressed the head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudritskiy.
The largest hydro-generating company in the country is indeed taking all appropriate measures to integrate into the European energy system, the press service of Ukrhydroenergo said.
The company has certified equipment that provides additional services in the United Energy System of Ukraine and meets the requirements of both national and European regulatory documents. After the synchronization of the UPS of Ukraine with ENTSO-E, Ukrhydroenergo has every chance to become a full-fledged participant in the European electricity market.
“To maintain the balance of power and parameters of reliability and quality of electrical energy in the United Energy System of Ukraine, Ukrhydroenergo in the market of ancillary services sells ancillary services to ensure regulation of frequency and active power. Namely - frequency recovery reserves, which, in turn, are divided into automatic frequency recovery reserve and manual frequency recovery reserve.
In addition, the Company, under the auspices of international financial organizations, implements investment projects aimed at modernizing existing equipment and building new highly maneuverable capacities, which will make it possible to provide services for regulating frequency and power, as well as balancing the energy system in the future for European users, ”- notes the general director of Ukrhydroenergo Igor Sirota.
Let us remind you that the integration of the United Energy System of Ukraine into the pan-European energy system ENTSO-E is one of the key strategic goals of the state and a component of its energy security. After all, the synchronous operation of the Ukrainian power system with ENTSO-E will increase the reliability and stability of the UPS of Ukraine, expand the possibilities for the exchange of electricity between neighboring countries, increase competition in the domestic market and create opportunities for work in the European energy market.
