Repairs of blast furnace air heaters are being completed at Dneprovsk Iron and Steel Works

At the Dneprovsky Metallurgical Plant, major repairs of two air heaters of blast furnaces No. 9 and No. 12 are underway. The main goal is to replace the refractory lining of the combustion chambers due to its wear during the operation of the units.

“At the end of last year, we performed overhaul of the stove # 6 of blast furnace # 1M. Currently, the overhaul of air heater No. 4 DP-9, 2nd category, and air heater No. 2 DP-12, 3rd category are being carried out at the same time, "says Vladislav Lazebny, deputy head of the blast furnace shop for engineering.

The repair of the stove # 4 is designed for 180 days, now the substandard refractories of the combustion chamber weighing 3.5 thousand tons, the radial walls and the dome have collapsed in full, the gratings and columns of the nozzle are being dismantled. After that, the lining will be restored in full, metal structures and platforms will be repaired.

The renovation is going ahead of schedule, the plans are to finish it 15 days earlier.

16-day overhaul of air heater No. 2 DP-12 provides for the restoration of the refractory lining of the combustion chamber by the method of semi-dry gunning (applying a layer of concrete to the surface of the structure under compressed air pressure). Today, the renovation work is nearing completion here.

On both air heaters, cabling and wiring products and command devices will be partially replaced, the control panels and lighting networks of the heater will be repaired.

Overhaul of air heaters will increase the temperature of the hot blast into the furnace, which, in turn, will make it possible to reduce the cost of specific fuel per ton of pig iron during the smelting process.

The enterprise invests UAH 73.7 million in overhaul of both air heaters.
